Press release: Japanese paper laminate Washi HPL
Washi HPL is an innovative laminate collection made from genuine Japanese papers that expands the range of designs available for door panels, furniture fronts, and tabletops in the HPL sector, opening up previously unseen possibilities.
Washi HPL laminates are genuine paper laminates made from fine Japanese papers (washi) that, together with hand-made natural-fiber papers, bring the full range of Japanese paper aesthetics to interior design. A wide variety of natural-fiber textures—made from mulberry and Manila hemp fibers—are thus finding their way into international interiors.
In the manufacturing process according to the laminate standard DIN EN 438, the Japanese papers are impregnated with resin, coated with a protective overlay, and pressed into a laminate. Like conventional laminates, Washi HPL is extremely durable, easy to work with, and versatile.
Washi HPL can add a special touch to heavily used surfaces such as door panels, furniture fronts, tabletops, countertops, and kitchen backsplashes. These Japanese paper-based laminates are available in a thickness of 0.7 mm and, depending on the design, in the sizes 2000 x 950 mm and 2440 x 950 mm. Other thicknesses and sizes are available upon request.
The Washi HPL Japanese paper laminate collection is part of Takumi’s JAPANEL decorative panel line. JAPANEL brings Japanese aesthetics to interior design.
Japanese materials are multifaceted. For example, there are thousands of varieties and textures of Japanese paper, which are used in all areas of life. While its aesthetic appeal is also popular in Europe, its use is limited due to technical challenges and differing expectations regarding the material.
That is why Takumi, in collaboration with partners in Japan and Europe, developed the Japanel interior panels, translating Japanese aesthetics into European spaces and thereby breaking down all barriers. With Japanel, it is now possible for the first time to incorporate the beauty of delicate Japanese papers into all areas of interior design and décor.
Takumi exclusively imports authentic Japanese materials directly from manufacturers and uses them to develop composites with a Japanese aesthetic and interior products for the international market.
